| More About Pink Topaz |

Pink topaz is an alternative birthstone for the month of June. Topaz occurs in a wide range of colors that includes red, orange, peach, pink, yellow, and clear, and is found in Brazil, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Russia. Red and pink topaz gems were used in the jewelry of the 18th and 19th Century Russian Czarinas which is why it has also been referred to as "Imperial Topaz". Historically Topaz has been found to have healing abilities to stimulate the endocrine system and even assists in general tissue regeneration.
In the mid 1700's, a Parisian jeweler found that the yellow Brazilian topaz becomes pink upon exposure to moderate heat. Today nearly all the pink topaz occurring in jewelry has been heat-treated.
It is recommended that Topaz be kept in separate boxes to protect other jewelry from scratches as it is a hard gemstone. It is also advisable to avoid big temperature changes as Topaz often becomes paler if kept out in the sun. |
